We have been using GAPS Biochar for 7 summers in our series of lakes.
Gary has been very accommodating and gives excellent service by supplying us with a very high- quality biochar that is extremely suitable for use in our lakes.
Our Water Quality Committee originally purchased GAPS Biochar to lower Phosphorus because of a Blue-Green Algae problem but we found other benefits with the use of GAPS Biochar over the years.
The Water Committee does multiple testing a season for Microcystin (4X), Algae Identification and Numeration (2X) and Phosphorus with the Lake Partner Program (6X) and by the second season we had data that confirmed the power of GAPS Biochar, especially lowering Microcystin Toxin. We have not had to close the lakes due to high toxins since starting this program and we have seen the toxin numbers going down every year. (The last 2 years the toxin numbers never went above 1.5ug/L in one of our lakes even when B-G Algae was present with record high water temperatures)
I am a long-time resident of the lake and with my background in biology I can say there has been a marked increase in lake health since we started using GAPS Biochar. Increases in population and health of fish, turtles, and amphibians is very evident and noticed by the residents.
The water insects that are indicators for healthy lakes are also on the increase (caddisfly, mayfly etc). We now have a Bald Eagle and Osprey that entertains us capturing Bass from the lake.
When you look at recent research articles about biochar you will find how it is being used in water treatment plants for removal of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs), Toxins (microcystin), Microplastics and Nutrients.
These articles support our data and observations on lake health.
For a high-quality biochar with a proven record over 7 seasons in our Ontario lakes, I highly recommend GAPS Biochar
